Six Week Check In

Hello friends and family,

The Amazima School - Primary has now been open for six weeks. Praise the Lord! There have been a lot of challenges, but God has given our team the strength and joy to make it through each new day. This teaching experience is unlike any I have ever had before. There have been multiple days where the school has lost electricity (so any photocopying or technology plans are useless), my voice has been drowned out by the downpour on the roof or construction happening just outside my classroom, and swarms of insects have decided to land on the front of my class and slowly die and fall on me throughout the day. I can easily become frustrated when my best laid plans fall through, but I am learning to be more flexible and patient than ever before. Students love to be at Amazima where they are in a safe environment, fed four times a day, and every adult on staff is speaking encouragement into their lives. The Holy Spirit continues to remind me that I don't have to do everything perfectly, but He can use me with all my imperfections to bless these children.

It has been a significant challenge to meet the needs of my class. I have been working hard to individualize instruction, but it has been very overwhelming. My teammate who was supposed to share in this task had to return to the United States before school started, but thankfully she plans to return in early March. We were also able to hire a Ugandan teacher to take over math. He joined our team last week and is currently in training. We're hoping that he'll be ready to begin teaching the first week of March as well. In the meantime I'm teaching five different levels of English, three levels of math, whole group science, and learning Ugandan social studies so I can teach it daily. I'm really excited to hand some of those responsibilities away soon. Also, with the AEP team growing, hopefully we'll be able to invite 11 students to join the AEP class soon.

Last Sunday I planned a Galentines Day celebration with my friend Chelsea (in the black shirt) to celebrate our friendships in Uganda. I have been here for six months and I am so thankful for the team I moved here with and the many other women who have prayed with me, cried with me, and encouraged me. God has richly blessed me through so many wonderful people and I am overwhelmed by His goodness and care for me.

Thank you for continuing to pray for me. I have had some challenging days, but I know God has me here for a purpose and He will continue to sustain me. Thank you for your continued encouragement, support, and prayers.
