Happy June!

Hello family and friends!

Term Break
We had two weeks off between Term 1 and Term 2 to rest, relax, and prepare for the next 14 weeks. Three of my friends joined me in travelling to the UAE and it was fun to show them around a place I love, introduce them to some amazing people, and take them to the school I used to teach at in RAK. We had time to see some of the touristy sites, stock up on some goodies (chocolate chips, almonds,  and cheetos were a big hit), and relax and rest by the beach. I stayed in the UAE a few days longer than they did and am so thankful for the time I was able to spend reconnecting with sweet friends. I'm thankful that the UAE is so close to Uganda and thankful I had the opportunity to visit a place I love so much.

A New Term
Students came back to Amazima on Monday and it was so good to see them. I had the opportunity to collaborate with the P1 and P3 teachers and help them set up a lot of classroom procedures that I hope will be helpful this term. I also spent some time in P5 doing reading assessments with students and next week I'm helping the P5 English teacher use the data to plan his instruction. It was fun to be a little more involved with the students and see teachers taking my ideas and adapting them to fit in their classrooms. I also had the surprising opportunity (with about a 3 minute warning) to sub for my former AEP students on Friday. I loved being back in the classroom with them and seeing how much they've grown in their reading skills and confidence over the past few months.

Next Steps
My two year commitment to Amazima is over at the end of July and I've been praying about what comes next. I came over on a team of nine people (one returned home in November, two are leaving in June, one in July, one in August, and one is planning to leave in December). I've been praying about whether to renew with Amazima, work with a different organization in Uganda, or return to the US. I love so much about the mission and vision of Amazima and I'm trying to decide if my skills are best used here or somewhere else. I love that I've had the opportunity to help equip teachers, but I also really miss being a classroom teacher. Please pray for me as I make some big decisions in the coming weeks.

Thank you!!!
As I near the end of my original commitment, I'm blown away by the ways I've been supported, encouraged, and prayed for over the past two years. When I decided to join Amazima, I was nervous and unsure that enough people would commit to support me while I was here. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have not had to worry about support over the past two years thanks to your generosity. Thank you for joining in the work I'm doing in Uganda by supporting me financially, as well as through prayer. I am so thankful for you!
