Halfway to Break!

Hello friends and family,

We're halfway through Term 3!!! Six more weeks until the end of the school year!

I am so excited to be visiting the US soon. (Last time was Christmas Break 2022.) I haven't bought my tickets yet, but I plan to visit from December 14-January 16. I look forward to catching up with many of you!

P7 and PLE
Many of the students I taught my first year are now in P7. This means that November 4-7 they will be taking the PLE (Primary Leaving Exam) that shows they have memorized all the information taught for the last seven years. It is a lot. Most schools in Uganda have students coming to school seven days a week from 6:30am-6:30pm to make sure students are prepared for it. Thankfully, Amazima is only teaching P7 six days a week from 7am-5pm. Still, the kids are tired and a little stressed because of all the pressure that goes with the PLE.

I've continued opening my room at lunch time for students to hang out, and most P7 spend 3-4 of their lunch breaks a week listening to music, coloring, playing games (banagrams is the new favorite this term), and just coming in to talk to me. It's nice to see them take a break from the long days to relax and be kids!

Please pray for Amazima's P7 as they take their PLE. This test impacts whether or not they go to secondary school and the results will be asked for at future job interviews. Several P7 students are also the first members of their families to attend school and I know that they want to show their families that they're not wasting this opportunity. The staff at Amazima is encouraging these students to study hard and do their best, but remember that their value is not based on their performance on the PLE. This past Thursday, we had a dedication service to pray for them and encourage them before exam week.

Results of the test will come out in February, so please also pray for peace, safety, and wisdom over their extra long holiday.

Bible Team
I'm back teaching Bible to the same students I had last year (they're now in P4) and I love it. I get to co-teach with the Bible teacher that was teaching them while I was at GSF and it has been fun to tag team and make Bible come to life for our students. We are studying the Bible chronologically and after almost three years, we've finally reached the life of Jesus. Its fun to see them connecting so much of the life of Jesus with what they've learned in the Old Testament.

Last week I spoke in assembly about the woman at the well (John 4). I ended my talk by encouraging the students to ask their teachers about each of their testimonies (how they have seen God work in their lives and how they came to know Jesus). All throughout last week, students were asking me my testimony before school, during breaks, and after school. It was awesome to share with so many students. I truly believe that God is at work and is using Bible lessons, assemblies, and our teachers together to show them who He is.

*This week P2 led assembly and acted out the Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15). Please enjoy the video of the dance party the father threw when his son returned home.

Brittany
One of our American teachers planned to visit her family for two weeks in September and return by the start of Term 3. While she was there, she found out her mother had cancer and decided to stay a few more weeks until they knew how serious her mother's diagnosis was. In early October, she found out she had colon cancer and next week (November 5th) she will undergo a colectomy to remove her colon. All of this feels like it happened so fast and she is unsure what her future plans are. Please pray for her surgery to successfully remove the cancer and for her healing from the procedure. Pray also for her peace in this uncertain and challenging season she is facing.

Thank you for the many ways you have continued to pray for, encourage, and support me. I am so thankful for each one of you and look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in December!

PS I'm in a Bible Study by Jen Wilkin right now studying 1, 2, and 3 John. It's so good! If you haven't read these books lately, you should - they're excellent! πŸ˜‰
